How to care for your OnePan to prolong its life

About PFAS-free coatings

PFAS is a nasty group of chemicals used to repel dirt and fats from various surfaces (e.g. frying pans, ski wax, make-up and functional clothing). PFAS substances are called "the forever chemicals” because they can never be broken down by nature. Therefore, PFAS are unfortunately found in the water we drink and the air we breathe. Research has also shown that PFAS chemicals are carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting, which means they can affect both male an female fertility negatively. So when it comes to OnePan’s products, you can feel safe that they are completely free from all PFAS chemicals, and not only some - like PFOA.

Our frying pans and trays are instead coated with a ceramic nonstick coating that is harmless to both the body and nature.

In order for you to get the best out of your OnePan and its PFAS-free coating in terms of both longevity and quality, here are our best tips and tricks:

Heat up your pan slowly

Patience pays off. Setting your stove to a lower-medium temperature at first and then increasing the heat to the desired temperature will extend the life of your OnePan.

Avoid overheating an empty pan

An empty pan on high heat without anything in it to fry, fries the coating instead. So, A tip for you to see when the pan is ready, is to add oil or butter to it before heating it up. It gives you an indication of when the pan is hot enough to start frying. Place the food in the pan as soon as the oil or butter has heated up to avoid the pan from overheating.

Cleaning your pan

One of OnePan’s best features is the coated surface that prevents food from sticking to it, which also makes the pan very easy to clean. The best way to clean any non-stick pan to prolong its lifespan, is by proper hand washing with hot water and soft soap (for the Swedes: Grönsåpa). Clean it thoroughly enough so that no matte patches can be seen afterwards. When you’re done, dry it off with a microfiber cloth for a glossy finish.

Utensils

Unlike non-stick frying pans that contain PFAS, you can use all types of utensils in a OnePan, even metal ones since scratches are completely harmless. However, the coating lasts longer if you only use utensils made of softer materials, like wood or silicone, when cooking with or cleaning your pan.

Burnt food in pan

Do you have spots in your pan where everything sticks? It's common that slightly burnt food, which hasn't been properly washed off, sticks as an outer layer on the pan. Try this: when your OnePan has cooled down, pour cold water that covers the burnt area. Then, place it on the stove and let the water boil for a few minutes. Then hand wash the pan thoroughly with soft soap. Polish with a microfiber cloth until the surface is shiny. This can restore better non-stick functionality.

Excessive fat in the pan after frying

If you’ve fried something that released a lot of fat, then wipe the fat out of the frying pan with a paper towel before washing it. This will make it easier to clean and more friendly for both the environment and your drain.

Storage of your dreams

Your OnePan was delivered in a circular textile bag, which - believe it or not - used to be hotel bedlinen. We used it to protected your frying pan during its journey to you - but it’s also great for protecting your OnePan in your kitchen so that it doesn’t scratch or scuff against other pans and pots in your cupboards.
